Off Topic: Firefox Users Beware ...

Post by MacroFiend » Tue May 10, 2005 4:18 pm

Got this in one of my tech security newsletters. Thought I'd share it since I know Firefox is popular ... especially here.

------------
Major security flaws just uncovered in the popular Firefox
browser have its creators rushing to fill the gaps. The
vulnerabilities are called "extremely critical" and were
leaked to the Web a few days ago. Ouch. For details on what
the problem entails
, and where to find the patches, check
out our story. Firefox may be good, but it's not perfect!

Eh, can you name a single hacker that is anti-firefox? No? Can you name a single hacker that is anti-microsoft? Yes?
All I'm saying is.. I'm not particularly worried. Hackers target MS/IE because 90% of internet users use IE, and/or they hate MS.

You're right but as Firefox gains more popularity, the people who exploit bugs for financial gain have to adapt to defects in it simply because it is becoming more popular. Besides that, if an anti-MS hacker really wanted to screw with your MS OS, why would he discriminate against a non-MS browser w/ a security flaw? He's still showing his hate for MS ... just taking another route to get there.

From what I read, it was an exploit in their javascript engine. Didn't do any more research in it than that.

Javascript engines in general are exploit ridden.
