grrr,... what am I missing?

Post by marco » Sat Dec 07, 2002 5:50 am

Hi all, thanks beforehand on any help.

I'm runnning WinME
I downloaded the latest BETA release, IRC-20021201,
changed the name of MacroQuest.ini.dist into MacroQuest.ini
installed ActivePerl 5.8.0 build 804 (come to think of it,.. might that be the problem? do I NEED to install Perl 5.6 ?)
cut'n pasted the new 05/12 offsets into the EQgame.ini (and changed the MacroQuestVersion=IRC-20021201)

I then loaded MQ (it shows in the taskbar)
and opened MQwindows (and I did not forget to patch the main EQ.exe to actually get the 05/12 EQ update).
I did this in the newUI (but I know that when I'm about to use macro's i need to use the oldUI).

All loads fine exept I don't get the "MarcoQuest is active" line when I'm ingame.

So,.. I'm at a loss for what I've forgotten,.. can you help me out?

While I'm here asking questions,.. I never figured out how to use the new console mod for MQ,.. could you enlighten me on that to?

Thanks again.
and sorry to ask these obvious beginners questions,.. but I've spent quite some time on it trying to figure it out myself by searching on the Forums,.. but I could not solve it.

Hey all,..

Just talking about it helps :-)

Conclusion: Macroquest is NOT compatible with Perl 5.8!
I deinstalled Perl 5.8 and installed Perl 5.6 and that made MQ work.

So all that remains of my question is how to activate the console mod?

To make things easier,.. I would like to ask if this post (not the whole thread) might be made sticky (or put into the MQ-readme).

Steps to make MQ work on your computer:

1- download the latest BETA-release <a href="http://macroquest2.com/IRC/?M=D" target="_blank"><strong>here</strong></a>, and extract it while keeping the folder names intact.

2- change the name of the MacroQuest.ini.dist into MacroQuest.ini (find this file in the extracted MQ folder subdir Release).

3- install <a href="http://www.activestate.com/Products/Dow ... ActivePerl"> (be sure to get release 5.6 ! ~~ release Perl 5.8 WILL NOT WORK)

4- go to the MQ - General Forum and find the latest offsets, cut'n paste the new offsets into the EQgame.ini (make sure you paste it into the EQgame.ini NOT the MacroQuest.ini)

5- delete any trailing (or leading) spaces from the new EQGame.ini file.

6- still in the EQGames.ini file change the MacroQuestVersion=IRC-xxxxxxxx line into the version you downloaded, for example MacroQuestVersion=IRC-20021201

7- make a desktop shortcut to the MacroQuest.exe in the \Release folder and place this on your desktop.

8- do not forget to patch the actual Everquest game using the official patcher program in case of an update. Most people (as do I) use MQ in combination with EQWin, i've read that some people forget to patch EQ when running EQWin and that causes them to crash, so that's why I included this step. (and check the latest offsets when you have patched the everquest game).

9- locate the file eqclient.ini (probably in found in "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest Trilogy\eqclient.ini") make a shortcut (not a copy) on your desktop.

10- If you are just going to play EQ, without using any tradeskilling macro's (so only making use of MQ's enhanced \who options and such) then you can use the NewUI. If you plan to actually run tradeskilling macro's then you will need to open (use the nifty desktop shotcut) the EQclient.ini file and change the line NewUI=TRUE to NewUI=FALSE (this becouse of the rightclicky bug in MQ).

11- Run the MacroQuest.exe (remember you also placed a shortcut to that on the desktop if you followed all the steps). MQ will show up as an MQ icon in the taskbar.

12- Run Everquest

Howdy,

If I remember rightly, the console mod has been superceded by the telnet server mod, which, as far as I can tell, doesn't work properly under WinME.
