Ignorance and stupidity

Post by Mystic_Blue » Tue Jan 25, 2005 4:24 pm
Years ago, the MQ community decided that it was not gonna help stupid people use MQ. It was decided that stupid people using MQ was bad. MQ is a powerful tool and not for everyone. Therefore stupid people are not to be helped, but discouraged from using MQ.
EQJoe, you are guilty of the "arrogance logic fallacy" Simply stated, many people assume that if a person understanmds less than me, can do less than me, they are stupid, and not deserving of consideration.

Sadly, this tends to say much more about the flamer than it does about the person they are flaming.

Ignorance is the lack of knowledge in a specific area, WE ALL have areas of ignorance.

Stupidity is the lack of the inate mental capacities to perform rational thought, and to learn higher level knowledge.

Monkeys are stupid, most humans are just ignorant.

There is a peculiar arrogance to the computer industry.

Personally, I have over 20 years professional experiance in the computer field. I am a CNE, MSCE, A+ certified Tech, used to be a cobol and dbase programmer.

I have often been astounded how often computer tech and help desk people despise the people who come to them for help.

I have read that this is a phenomenon common to new industies which have not yet grown up. At one time, it was common for auto mechanics to feel that a person who cant fix their own car, should not be allowed to own or use one.

So, lets apply YOUR standards to you...

Do you know who to repair your car, adjust the timing, replace the carburatur, rebuild an engine? No? then you should not be allowed to drive one....

Do you know how to build a house? pour trhe concrete, do the framing, install the insulation, windows and drywall? No> then perhaps you should not be allowed to live in one?

See how ludicrous this line of thought is?

You do have to consider that MQ2 is a cheating program and it was made by advanced computer users for advanced computer users. My statement was more towards the negative comments and name-calling that are constantly directed at novices. I disagree that those who don't understand at least a little programming should be allowed to use this software.

Code: Select all

Do you know who to repair your car, adjust the timing, replace the carburatur, rebuild an engine? No? then you should not be allowed to drive one....

You just fell into faulty analogy logic by the reasons Cronic already stated. I agree with Joe in a way (even tho I've argued with him for flaming before).

Taking your analogy with cars, people that know a lot about cars can mod their cars to make it more "powerfull" and go outside the boundaries of a normal car owner. Those people have no obligation to teach you how to do it or do it for you. However if you show interest and share their "passion" and you show that you're willing to learn most likely you will learn from them and get help. If you lash out at them for saying now when you show no interest at all they'll just tell you to fuck off and go away.

See how that resembles the boards here? I really don't like the flame everyone that asks attitude but some people deserve it. Least you can do is read the damm stickied posts and if you're not that good with computers start reading and learning, this ain't a community formed of "computer newbies", if you want to be a part of the community at least try to help yourself be at some sort of level that you can interact with it.

Last I checked I pay some ass like a $100 an hour to work on my car. I paided one hefty price for my car. I pay rent for my house I live in. I pay for other people to do this shit for me. MQ is free. You can't apply the same standards. If you want to pay someone to fix your MQ, then fine.. but as it stands it doesn't apear so.

So fucking what? I am a quad CCIE, MCNE, MCSE and I program in Basic, Perl, TCL and C++. And yes.. I am one arrogant sob because I think living in a 6000 sq ft home and driving a new car makes me better than the script kiddies. I am an old fuck who has worked my ass off. Nothing was ever given to me. And yes, I get pissed when the freeloaders come here asking to be spoon feed.

All those things are professions where professionals are PAID to perform work. That ludicrous line of thought simply does not apply here. You sir, are stupid to think that it does. If you dont want to be flamed, PAY UP. Get ViP status and I promise not to flame you unless you ask for it.
