Code: Select all

Right now, I'm stuck under the world in an OOW zone (which happens a lot because SOE messed something up again - Imagine that.) I was searching for the warp command and came across this post. Anyway, this is a classic example of why hacks are good. Right now, I'm losing time because somebody didn't program well enough. And now I'm turning to someone that can help me to help myself to save me time, and save the GMs time.
I know it's mostly a piece of shit but, tried /rewind?

Last night there were a lot of deaths and people getting stuck in various places in PoK and Shadow haven and possibly other zones. This was not a normal situation where /rewind is likely to have helped.

Now, the puzzle is why, since you seem to be a MQ2 user yourself Zeus, make such an inane comment? It can't be because you find the use of MQ2 to be wrong, else you wouldn't be here in the first place; unless of course you happen to be from SOE.

Then again, if you were from SOE you'd have known about all the deaths last night.

Warp isn't part of MQ2... I dont think he implied that MQ2 is wrong. I dont condone warp and I dont see any reason why he should either

Warping is very asshatish as it gives you a major advantage over the legitimate players and even most stock MQ users. However, once I got the point where I was indifferent towards the safety of my account, I warped more than I walked. Just one of those things.

Yeah, I can understand that Cronic.

Zeus, fasterfind never said he was using warp. He said he was looking for it and ended up here. He also said, "Right now, I'm losing time because somebody didn't program well enough. And now I'm turning to someone that can help me to help myself to save me time, and save the GMs time." Which means that he hadn't find what he was looking for, yet.

Personally, in a case like that, I'd like to have the warp plugin myself. It sucks getting stuck in places you can't get out of and have to wait on a freaking GM, or Guide, who some believe to be fabled creatures. Hell, I'm sure everyone here wishes they had it for times like that and wouldn't use it otherwise. Though I'm sure some would get addicted to it.

Warping more than you walk is one thing Cronic, but your immortality code, "cast spells on people in other zones" cheat, and "trade nodrop gear to toons you haven't even rolled up yet on accounts you've yet to craete" hacks were a bit over the top. Then again, I guess as long as you were just doing it to save time lost due to game bugs, it's all fair.

gate and /rewind

Post by fasterfind » Wed Jan 19, 2005 3:10 am

My problem was that I bound myself at a decent looking spot, but when I gated, found my bind point to be under the world. After gating, /rewind wouldn't do me much good. I put up a petition for about 90 minutes before I started scouring the boards and net for deliverance.

It's true that megawarp is something that could easily be abused, and if the masses had their hands on it, ugliness would be inevitable. There are those that abuse power like they have it in a deathcamp.

Perhaps it would be possible to make a plugin with a lengthy reuse time that would allow someone to warp to the succor point. Something like that would be a lot harder to abuse, the risk would be of someone reverse engineering it. But anyone that can do that is probably in the more responsible crowd anyway.

I don't know if reduced power plugins like that have been considered. The general idea with tools is to always make them as powerful and useful as possible. But in the world of realistic trust and responsibility, it might be nice to have some plastic hammers handed out for the children to play with.
