Reading "StaticText" window pieces

Post by Marze » Thu Nov 18, 2004 6:34 am

It seems that ${Window[Bla].Child[Blabla].Text} will only read "Button" and "Label" pieces. Anything that is a "StaticText" item returns NULL. It just completely skips over them.

You will probably ask why I need to read something that is static... even though they say its static, it doesn't mean that it is static.

I'd rather ask why you're reposting something that search would have found a lot of hits for..

Well golly, maybe your very own use of scare-quoes around the term "StaticText" in the subject line of this very thread should have been taken as a subtle hint that your phraseology is off?

Bugger this, maybe somebody with more patience for utter stupidity will help you.

Hint: Where does that say anything about static? How bout searching for words that are actually in the variable you are trying to work with.
Reading . . . it's not just for me.

Before posting this topic I searched for a lot of relevant words: window text, window pieces, window child. The only relevant topics that came up had to do with the Confirmation Dialogue box. Unfortunatley they did not provide any answers to my problem.

The problem is isolated to Static Text only, thus the topic of this thread.

If this answer is simply that there is no solution, then ok, but I haven't come across that answer yet.

Your implication that your two messages were of help is incorrect.

Your assumption that you were the intended recipient is where the error lies. I wrote you off as hopeless before I even hit reply.

Mr Crazy Bard: If you are explicitely adressing me in your message and then claiming that I'm not the recipient of your message, I have to question who is the stupid one.

Judging from your post count, I must infer that you spend a LOT of time on these boards. You are probably young. Everquest is probably your life. You've probably read every single thread over the last six months, thus, it's easy for you to know what to search for. When you mature, and I hope you do, you will regret calling someone "utterly stupid" just because they didn't know the exact words to search for on a message board for hacking a computer game. Until then, just grow up.

Dont worry they are just always attacking people.. It gives them no greater pleasure to knock someone down then the just ignore or just answer the question..

But above is a link where they actually talk about getting the text from a window and be able to snag the information from it.. Hope that helps

In that thread, the LDON window example works because the window piece being tested is a button. Window pieces that are statictext seems to only return NULL for me.

Questioning's a good start, and it does my heart good to see that even in the case of one such as yourself, my Socratic methods might do some good. It's nice to be proven wrong on occasion, as my original assessment had you lacking the resources for even this small step on the path to enlightenment.

See we, humans that is, have this thing we call "intentionality". You can't know what another person intends by their remarks, or whether or not the remarks are directed at you, no matter how much it might seem so on the surface. To believe otherwise is what is often known as "delusional" or "magic thinking", and is generally regarded as something to be avoided, though I admit such thoughts of grandeur are not without their own subtle charms and even occasional advantage.
Judging from your post count,
I find this somewhat ambiguous, couched in such crude syntax, as it were. Do all of the judgements you so ponderously enumerated stem from your reconnoissance of this single piece of data?
I must infer that you spend a LOT of time on these boards.
You speak here of inference, but your conclusions seem derived rather by a process of induction. Quite muddled, somewhat mottled, and certainly not a very good model.
You are probably young. Everquest is probably your life. You've probably...
Ahh!! *lights go off* so it's a STATISTICAL analysis that your one piece of data compelled you to undertake. Well I dare say you have an excellent grasp of the basics of distributive properties. Would you care to place a small wager on a game of cards?
When you mature, and I hope you do,
No worries friend, I've even made plans to die some day.
you will regret calling someone "utterly stupid" just because they didn't know the exact words to search for on a message board for hacking a computer game.
Were that the case, and not another exemplar of your schizotypic rambling, I most certainly would feel the pangs of regret deep within my soul even now. However, as you utterance seems to be more of a frenetic cobbling together of words without any thought to consistency or coherence (though I must at this point humbly refer back to my own remarks on the inscrutability of reference and ever-present possibility of error) I'm afraid it just aint gonna happen.

thx, drive through

Scathed.

Call me immature again, since THAT was so fucking valuable. Also, if you could stop consuming so much of our precious oxygen on a daily basis, most of us here would appreciate it.
