EQ2&MQ3

Post by aj2k8 » Tue Nov 09, 2004 6:28 am

Jeez! Why are you guys so hyped up about people not using the search function! Maybe the last thread about the guy who wanted a mob lookup didn't know that he was supposed to type "item search" instead of "mob lookup"... The search function doesn't work 100% of the time, sometimes a person who knows all plugins and macros posted works better...

Besides, there are better things to be angry about, such as G.W.Bush being reelected.

Anyways, EQ2 IS OUT
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I preordered it, so I'll get it right after school... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After reading the only thread on it in this forum, the question still stands:
Will the MQ2 team make MQ3?

1. It should not be freely available no matter who you are.
2. It should not be open source.

Anyone else who's ever tried to do a long term project with support for an open source community of leeches knows why :)

the best thing about MQ2 is the ability to learn and ask questions to better yourself not that it removes tedious factors from EQ. not sure on the creation of MQ1 but dont think the main reason for making it was to be uber hackers. They just seen a chllange went after it to learn and better their skills. look how many people here have gotten better. Crazy tho he shit talks alot he has grown alot form when he first started browsing forums to what he can do now.

Open source only way to go imo. I myself like how EQwindows was handled(even tho its not open source). its still free but you get a better version for a small donation ever few months. Think MQ VIP section should be same way. 5 $ donation gets you 2 - 3months access then demoted to normal status.

These are mutually exclusive in reality.

For any realistic release, I agree, but then you'll always have the smacktards who try and argue it...

You can have closed-source without charging, and you can charge for open-source. You just have to include the source, then people can screw you over by posting it themselves depending on the license you use. Yeah, you're an idiot for opening the source of something you charge for, but then again you get that reasonably large percentage of people who would rather get the binaries from you for $5 than get the source and compile it themselves. Again, it all depends on the license you use and how aggressively you police it.

Open source means free as in speech, not free as in beer. Too many people are taking it to mean you don't have to pay for it. Personally, having stared down the barrel of the whole open-source thing, it's just really not worth the trouble.

Who knows if there ever will be a MQ for EQ2.

I bought the game and have leveled a mage up to level 8. So I can't claim to be an "expert" on high-end content. From the begining, I was dreading playing it without MQ, thinking it would be like EQ1.

Basically, if you use MQ to do anything other than two-box or afk macro, there isn't too much of a need in EQ2 - at least from what I can tell so far.

Zones are much smaller in general. They have a feature where you can find any NPC by asking a guard - it plots a find trail. Mobs can't be found in this manner, but usually the quests are descriptive enough where you can easily find things without needing something like the mq2 /face (mobname) or the mq2map.

EQ2 is crying to be hacked. You can't even legally make a macro that allows you to cast a spell, like with:

/assist Fighter
/cast 4
/group Nuking %T

This really sucks.

It's obviously a challenge to the MQ world... we won't put in a parser so you can insert your dirty MQ2 macro language. We'll make it 'impossible'.

<reaches for the off the shelf macro programs while I wish for the MQ2 gods to hack EQ2>

while you can't macro something like that, you can ...

cast nuke on the tank and it will nuke the tanks target.
heal a mob and it will heal who the mob is beating on.
attack and have the tank targeted and it will attack the tanks target.

All extremly usefull stuff.
Having a blast with EQ2 so far.

let me just say that MQ for eq2 is a must!! just getting from one side of the zone is sooo time consuming!! not to mention if you die you could theoretically warp your corpse to the zone in for a rez and not need to go recover a stupid shard. how about warping to quest mobs instantly without having to go through rooms of crap mobs... maybe a way to hack the lotto system? proly not possible, but i havnt looked at how the game works yet, sooo.... yah. im willing to help, never worked with any dev of this kinda stuff, but i have programming experience with C++ and sum ASM. id be willing to help if you could point me in the right direciton.

Dude, die in a fire. If you think that it is required to play the game, this is definately not the game for you. Go hack WoW.

I'd like to see a MQ for EQ II for its data collection benefits (gathering an item, NPC, spawn area, quests, etc database) as well as the ability to use multi-line macros (not being able to even add a text message to an attack / spell is downright annoying).
