Black Screen

Post by Grumpy » Sun Oct 03, 2004 9:19 am

This isn't an MQ2 problem really, but I figured I could get help here faster than SOEs wonderful tech support.

After Saturday morning's patch (pushed eqmain.dll and a couple xml files) I can no longer get into the game, either running MQ2 or not, with custom UI or default.

I get the EULA screen and splash screens, then login screen, then whether I hit "login" or "quick connect" or even "chat" button I get a black screen with a movable EQ cursor and nothing I do gets any response. If I just leave it at a black screen for a few minutes I get the "timeout" popup (and I can't even click on that). I have to pop up task manager and kill the session.

At first I thought it was my internet connection, but everything else works fine (browsing and posting here for example). Streaming movies or audio over the net, etc.

I shut down MQ2, thinking that might be the cause, and I disabled all my UIs except the default, still nothing. Any ideas?

Bet you are using the custom logon UI they have posted here. Look for the updated version, copy it in and try it. I had the same problem and ended up nuking my entire eq directory before I figured it out. Was the only explanation I could come up with. Or just delete the eqlsplayerdata.ini file or edit it to replace the

Code: Select all

XMLFilename=EQLSUI_custom.xml
with

Code: Select all

XMLFilename=EQLSUI.xml

Some guy posted a fix on the eqlive tech forums.
Involved changing a line in eqlsplayersomethingorother.ini
somethingWebOffer=false to somethingWebOffer=true
I don't remember. I've slept since I last read it.
