slightly off MQ2 topic -predownloading EQ patches

Post by shuttle » Mon Sep 13, 2004 1:38 pm

I run eq on 4 computers right now. During these days of OoW patching I patch with one computer and copy the files to the other computers. that way I really only patch once.

What I am looking to do is to have a way to more automate this process. Like a Mini (eq) patcher program that will check for new files and download new content to a virgin directory and then have a list of machines it can copy those files to (manual or automatic). that way I could just leave the program running while I am at work and then all of my EQ directories could be updated when I get home.

any idea's or pointers?

I've thought about this before, running some sort of CVS on my linux box and sync to the other machines / directories. Unfortuneately that is as far as it has gotten.

rsynch may be your answer. I believe it's cross-platform, multi-protocol, etc.

Copying files between machines, that I do.

I want a better method than to make some batchfile that starts and kills everquest.exe every 15 minutes (messy).

Just doing "dir/ah" from a command-prompt in your EverQuest directory yields one hidden file, "patchcache2.xml". This file contains name, timestamp, size and CRC for all of your EverQuest files.

No, you dont know all those parts. If you had bothered to look at rsync you would find it does exactly what you want it to do. Now go and read up on it cause I'm not gonna just tell you how it works. http://samba.anu.edu.au/rsync/

Use XCOPY!

Put this in a batch file:

Code: Select all

xcopy /e /y /f /D /EXCLUDE:exclude.txt c:\"Program Files"\Everquest\*.* c:\"Program Files"\Everquest2
Put this in the same directory as the batch file and call it exclude.txt

Code: Select all

eqclient.ini
UIErrors.txt
eqhardware.ini
\screenshots\
\userdata\
\logs\
EQ_Missing_Files.log
EverQuest.log
eqdevice.txt
eqoptions
UI_
\maps\
eqlsPlayerData.ini
eqfecfg.cfg
texture.txt
