need help on MQ deciding to hate me

Post by Danim » Thu Oct 24, 2002 6:28 pm

Hi, Im pretty much a newbie to MQ aswell, and I apologies for that. Its not a problem with macros or anything like that, but my problem is this.

I have been using MQ for a few weeks, and very impressed with it, made my tradeskills a breeze, but since PoP I've been having a lot of trouble.

My PC set up is Win98SE2, running everquest under EQW and have the latest version of MQ with the new offsets. I've also tried the new and old UI.

Everytime I load Everquest with MQ running in the background, everything seems to be fine, except when I get into game and then nothing, MQ hasn't loaded with the game, I can't use any of the commands, don't get the Macroquest has been loaded message or anything like that.

I've moved the release folder into my everquest directory, and tried it with the old and new offsets but nothing works. I've tried running it from outside the EQ directory, with the new and old interface and even without EQWindows running.

Any helpful advise and tips on how to get it up and running once more would be well appreciated.

Thanks everyone

A very confused MQ user who's on the verge of hitting his computer with a hammer.

I'm pretty much in the exact same boat and have tried the the same things under Windows ME. I've been fine until the latest version and now nothing seems to work.

Nothing grenades ore gives any messages. It's loaded on the system tray I'm using the old UI and /macro does nothing. I've tried both with EQW and without, no change. MQ in/under the EQ directory and not, even on the root.

Could this have anything to do with the new Pearl stuff? Or could the last patch have introduced something new? I've seen a post with a link for those having pearl issues, I was under the impression though that that was for people using the new pearl abilities/functions. It's an 8.5 mb download I think. I might as well give it a try and see what happens.

I wish I could tell you I understood, but I don't.

In the General forum Phantal posted a link to download a version of Active Pearl (post link below). Since I last posted here, I downloaded from that link, installed the software and now MQ is working again. I haven't had time to test it thoroughly, but I did activate a macro, something it wasn't doing at all before.

Give it a shot, it's a sizable download and takes another 80MB to install but /shrug.

H'lo, I'm the architect of your suffering -- the Perl addon is my baby.

You are having problems for this reason:

The newest releases of MQ include my addon for the Perl scripting language (which is a very powerful and complicated scripting language that will let you do MANY things that the built-in MacroQuest scripting won't let you do). However, to do this, a DLL which includes the Perl scripting "engine" must be available on your system. By default, the MacroQuest install includes this DLL (Perl56.DLL).

The problem is, this is the Windows NT/2000/XP version of the DLL and will NOT work properly on 9x. Unfortunately, I don't really believe that Win9x is a fabulous platform for doing this kind of stuff and I have no plans to include the 9x version of Perl56.DLL in my updates. If Plaz decides to put the DLL in the drop he publishes, that's his business...

The workaround is, as stated, to download the Win 9x (also supports WinME I believe) version of ActiveState's Perl. You actually only really need the one file: Perl56.DLL. If someone wants to be proactive and publish that DLL on an FTP or web site (which may or may not violate ActiveState's license agreement), I'm sure the rest of the 9x community would love you.

But in the interim, I have a suggestion you probably won't like: if your hardware will support it, upgrade to XP. You'll be so much happier -- trust me :)

THanks for the help guys, I downloaded the activeperl, *after having much trouble with having to download an upgrade to my installer also*. And its all working fine now :oD.

Im planning on upgrading my machine soon, so chances are I'll take your advise and update my OS aswell, though I am not really a big fan of the newer version of windows, I guess everyones gotta be brought into the future sometime.
