I notice you are not posting at all Lax and I hope you're out doing something other than MQ. I have one direct question to post and then I'm done. Some of the other Devs have posted replies and opinions but I want to know: Why do you update 'our' fucking macroquest every patch?

Answer it simply, deeply, or just ignore it. I'm done. Thanks for answering my mindless posts and helping me during IRC chat. Thanks for letting me use this great program. /bow

Thanks McKorr.

The cool breeze of your attitude soothed the continuity of my impending flaming rampage.

Why the hell would anyone want Lax or any dev to be 'professional' here? This sure as hell isn't a day job for anyone, though I don't doubt the hours are crappy and the pay nonexistant. That alone could make you mistake it for a day job...

It's hard for me to keep my local versions of the few macros I use working much less keep the project coded and running as smooth as it does. MQ is usually running against live within 24 hours of any given patch. I used to do some code for SEQ back in the day and things were NEVER that smooth. I mean, if Micro$oft ran their community this tightly we'd not be worried about having the latest greatest security patches on a daily basis. And all this by a set of devs and macro authors who put up with whining n00bs as a reward for putting out product that does things people think can't be done.

So, you want him to wear a suit and say please and thank you? Screw that. I'd rather not be here if he did. Not that I do squat except try and help out with the awesome macros that other folks wrote, but I sure as fuck don't want to tell him or anyone else how to act. Except you, now :)

Oh, and by the way, go through and read the forums... Lax is actually pretty damned funny and easy going unless someone is a total fucking dumbass. When he puts on the Lax-itude it's because he's made some big improvement to MQ that will twist a bunch of whiners in their panties. The couple bucks you PayPal'd are a nice gesture, but just getting off his friggin' case is probably a much nicer reward.

Y'know what? If I'm not paying you for your work, I can't expect you to suck it up when I bitch. I can expect you to bitch right back. We live in a market economy, the only time you have reasonable expectation that someone will blow sunshine up your ass is when you are paying them to do it.

When my newb ass first came here, I too was a bit put off by the attitudes. Then I looked at the forums and quickly realized that I would not have the patience to display the restraint that the devs display here.

Kiss their asses, kids. I know I have a tough time stomaching EQ if I don't have MQ2 running for some reason . If I wasn't broke as fuck just like everyone else, I'd sure as hell be donating right now. Heck, I may see if I can scrape something together anyway.

Adding my "Good on ya, devs!" to this post because I think ya'll kick ass, and I appreciate what you do. And that includes the effort to drag the whiners kicking and screaming into what is obvious a better way to handle things.

as fun as it is watching all this back-and-forth...

I have been using MQ for about a week.

I have been searching this board for the last 3 hours or so.

I cannot seem to find anything that explains exactly WHAT this 'huge' change is, or how to go about converting/adjusting macros that are as of this update not working.

I found a fleeting references to a change in variable handling syntax and this is it.

So maybe this isnt the place for it ? But if one of you would take a break from your ass-kissing or berating of the devs and direct me to the information i need...

even if you do it rudely :P

It would be appreciated, and probably a lot more productive than participating in this argument further.

If there is no conversion guide or explanation of the changes to direct me to, Someone could provide me with an in depth explanation of the changes and I will write something up

ag:

Wassup is working on the new manual, all the info should be in there. There are a lot of changes, and they are spread over 3 or 4 very, very long threads.

I'll be adding a new section to the Macro Depot. Sections. One for conversion questions, one just for Macros using the new syntax.

Eh, old Depot was getting cluttered anyway :)

Most of it is in General Development. It's like a 30 page thread these days though, which is why even I am waiting for the new manual :) Look for the "prototyping" thread, the really long one.

Also go to the anoucements Forum, the top anouncement details the changes in each update. Below that are reference posts on M2DATA TLO's and MQ2DataVars

Changes

Post by fez_ajer » Thu Apr 29, 2004 11:23 am

When I need to find them I search for "MQ2Data TLO Reference". There are 4-5 posts in there which the first message the bomb. The Top Level Objects post is prolly the one I use the most when scripting, so it's a good idea to bookmark a couple of those.

I am new to the MQ community, as I just found it right at the start of Phase 1. After being away from EQ for about a year, I would probably lose interest again if it were not for MQ. More than my renewd interest in EQ, I truly enjoy all the programming techniques explored and used in this program. Being new and not even used to the old format probably has made it a bit easier on me, as I was still learning that anyway. I truly appreciate what Lax and the devs do, as well as all the input and ideas from the community. For the most part I enjoy doing this more than playing EQ.

Now I will admit I was one of those checking and checking yesterday for the new zip, mostly because I am not sure I remember how to do things on my own anymore.

I know I am not knowledable enough to make the changes on my own, so I will gladly wait for Lax and the devs to do them. And if they want to make some grand change to the program, by all means, I look forward to learning something new again.
