BURNED BY MacroQuest 0905 and the New UI. WARNING TO ALL!!

Post by PlayPal » Thu Sep 12, 2002 2:29 pm

I was using MQ 0905 and when I Zoned... ALL my Weapons and Armor VANISHED!!! I was left with NOTHING save for my loose plat. But everything else on me is now gone! Thousands of plat used to twink my character now wasted.

MQ0905 is still HOSED with the new UI. DO NOT USE IT AND ZONE!!!

You Have Been Warned!! I lost EVERYTHING on me. :(

To Make Matters even WORSE....

Post by PlayPal » Thu Sep 12, 2002 3:12 pm

I made it to the Bank and... you guessed it:

EVERYTHING there was GONE, too! ALL items stored in there and all the Sacks they were in. Nothing is left, save for the Plat that was stored in there.

Naturally, I am petitioning. But do I think they will help me?
NOT FOR A MINUTE!

I will. Just sitting in-game now like some naked-newbie pissed off.

One thing to add: I noticed it took me twice as long to Zone when this all happened. At first, I assumed that MQ simply caused another Zone-lockup as it often does at times. But then the screen actually recovered and I was in the Next Zone where I made my horrific discovery. :(

how can you blame macroquest because verant does not know how to save your stuff. also it is a known issue has happend to a few people. If you use macroquest you choose to take the risks involved with using it. So please do not take it out on the program and say it is hosed because you recieved a bad roll of the mystical dice. Smile and say i knew the risks and i took the chance and lost.. after all you dont blame the casino when you loose now do you ...

MQ rocks plain and simple...

Okay.
I knew the risks with using MacroQuest and EQ, and now I LOST Everything the very first time I zoned with it running a Macro. Never had a lick of problem from losing items in over two years of playing this game. So YOU do the math. It is too great to be some stupid coincidence. Only a fool believes that.

I am warning others so they don't go into EQ with MQ running, and blissfully thinking all is well, okay?? Something is definitely WRONG.

It is a gamble.. yes. And I lost! :(

I was going to post this when it first happened to me, but I figured it was possible it was just a random thing and didn't want to ruffle any feathers.

Anyway, the same exact thing has happened to me TWICE since I started using MQ (prior to the 9/5 version as well). Crash while zoning and when I get back all equipment (even in the bank) is gone. Everything except for coins.

The first time I petitoned and got my character rolled back, we'll see what happens when I try that again.

I'm not upset and certainly not blaming anyone but myself, however, I do believe MQ caused this and want everyone to be aware of this potential problem.

I don't know squat about how the program works, but I suspect this problem comes not from running MQ, but from zoning while running a macro. I normally end macros while zoning or logging, but on occasion I forget to do so. I'd be intereted in knowing, if any, what macro the other person had running when this occured. It's even possible we are using the same one.

Just to clarify, I'm not upset over this at all and am not trying to frighten anyone out of using the program. In fact, assuming I get another character restore, I might even use the program again myself. For peace of mind and just to be ultra-super-careful I'll probably start logging off and exit the program when I need to zone.

THANK YOU! That is exactly the confirmation I was looking for!

Yes, I had a Macro running at the time of the Zoning. A simple one that only repeatedly pressed an ACTION KEY over and over to get my SENSE HEADING Skill up. Nothing fancy about it at all. I Zoned while it was running and BAM! Lost everything I owned the same as you did.

I have petitioned and we shall see if any roll-back is performed. But I am hoping to save others from all this lost time and needless aggravation. Your confirmation should greatly help!

I hope you get your restore, it took me about a week and a half the first time this happened to me, I believe they look to verify your equipment was not traded/dropped, etc and then restore you from a previous save point. Truthfully, I was little nervous petitioning at all, having suspected it was MQ that caused it and worried they might be able to see that. I eventuallty decided risking a ban was worth the prospect of losing all my gear.

Anyway, I'm a bit more nervous petitioning this time, now that I'm confident it was caused by MQ and they may be a bit more suspicious. Hopefully they can't detect anything.

You know of you just log completely off before you get to a save point you would have been ok.

Salutations,
This is a reported bug from a while ago, that (i think) was fixed in 20020829... but... meh... It is not suggested that you zone until (at least) the next release

I did log right off as soon as it was discovered. To DUMP MacroQuest from memory more than anything else. Didn't help a damn bit. All gone.

Must be more of that 'Cosmic Dice' rolling. LOL!

No, you are right, it wasn't just bad luck, Plazmic, for no reason at all, just decided to one day put a bug in his program to purposefully remove all your gear and delete it. Out of the blue. And of course, he was able to find a way to actually manipulate gear in order to vanish it, and also find a way to program MQ to specifically find just a COUPLE people out of the dozens of MQ users and do it to them only.

Don't be a moron, it sucks you lost your gear, I agree, but blaming a program, an OPEN SOURCE program, for losing your gear is pointless. It WAS bad luck. Shit happens, get used to it. "cosmic dice" and all the other terms you used to attempt to make "Madman" look bad were in fact the only logical assumption to make. Conspiracy is not the reason for everything bad that happens to everyone.

Some people have alot of nerve.

:::EDIT:::
*I* have alot of nerve and am an irritable jackass.

Plaz and I tried to repro this. I had the perfect repro and we were able to regress this issue. (Translation) were able to repro this bug on an old release and not repro it useing the same steps on a recent release...

Well, so you will know, I was using MacroQuest Release 0905 and it 'reproduced' itself just fine the very first time I zoned with a simple Macro running. And yes, I was using the New UI (whip me, beat me).

Was there another version I should have used to avoid all this mess? Aside from... 'the next release.' ;)
