Getting around HUGE or Zone wide obstacles

Post by ImaNoob » Sat Mar 20, 2004 4:02 am

Hello just wondering if anyone has a reliable way to path around or through a huge obstacle, for instance...

I was running a farming macro in misty that would search out and kill spiders. This macro works great except when the mob is on the other side of the wall in misty. It has it's own obstruction code that backs up a little, then makes a turn then heads forward (think about backing a car up into a parking stall), and I also tried swapping in the tried but true strafe left and right. These work great for trees and smallish buildings however, neither is adequete...

Is there a way to actually know that the wall (or another zone wide obstruction with only 1 or 2 openings) is between you and the targeted mob. Then take the path of least resistance, through the hole in the wall or what not?

I notice that the map shows the trails if they exist, what about walking the trail until you get within 15-25% of zone size, before making a bline to the mob.

Has anyone tried to code something like this? What would be involved?
Thanks in advance!

hehe u could code it so that when it hits that big wall and triggers the avoid thingy part just have it move-to-loc to right in front of the gate... have it pass though the gate and then on to your so called "target"

but if you don't know how to code that your SOL cause im laying in bed typeing this so giveing u an example atm is outta the question

One fatal flaw

Post by ImaNoob » Sat Mar 20, 2004 7:14 am

One fatal flaw with that is that you would have to know ahead of time where that hole in the wall is, and I'm sure Misty isn't the only zone with Zone Wide barriers, so the loc would be different. Admitedly if your a druid casting Succor will get you close enough to that hole, that pathing would kick in and get you where you need to go.

But like I said before the paths are showing on the map, it would be nice if there was a way to follow the path on the map, to within a certain percentage of distance to the mob, and then make a b line straight for the mob, as is the case now.

I believe that wall runs more or less east-west?

Set up your macro so that if you pass a certain loc on the X axis (X and Y being reversed in EQ) you shift to a sub that takes you through the gate, then reverts back to moving towards your target.

I've used something similar for farming sonic wolves and owlbears in Hollowshade. If I pass a certain point and get too close to the Grimling camp I reset and head back to my starting point.

Sure, you have to adjust this for whatever zone you are in, but it's just a cut-and-paste job to make the macro for the new zone.

Obtaining x,y of target?

Post by ImaNoob » Sat Mar 20, 2004 5:50 pm

Alright, thats what I figured I would have to do, it just seems kinda sloppy to me is all.... SO I take it there is no way to make the poor little fella run along the path?

Why don't you just pick another target? Since you at the keyboard, this should not be a problem.

Mob location

Because there may only be 1 of the mobs in the zone, it wouldn't make sense to try and manually pick another target, also the macro picks the target automatically. Which also answers my previous question about obtaining x,y on the target.

Quite to the contrary

I'm trying to find a way to keep from getting stuck in zones where there is a barrier, when your mob is on the other side. Currently the only way to
get unstuck when hitting these barriers is to /endmacro, get to someplace where you won't be stuck anymore, then start the macro back up again, thereby rendering the log useless.

I admit the same snippet may be used to make and AFK macro, but by itself, running around an obstacle and straight into a mob, would only get you turned into lunch for the mob.

There are already a ton of pathing macros, I'm just asking if it is possible to make the toon, follow the path already shown on the map, that way the solution would be universal, however it appears that there is no way to do this, so it would have to be a zone by zone kind of thing.

It's actually funny now Noob...

You request all this help for people to write macros for you, which is fine, and so many would help you if you gave it a decent try.

But that is not what I'm laughing about! You now say it's not for an AFK macro, but have you even read all the requests you are wanting people to write for you?

Sell stuff, get around obstacles, escape with a PoK book...sounds like you are farming Misty Thicket =P

Before that, fishing! Dear God man!

C'mon man...at least TRY to learn something, then come back and ask specific questions when you are stuck.

Various Macros

Post by ImaNoob » Sun Mar 21, 2004 1:05 pm

I'm using the information gained to write and or update various macros.
If you will take a look you will also note, that I have just updated the groundcollect.mac with things I have learned from both mine and others posts.

I, as do alot of people have several alts, of varying race/class/level, each has it's own set of macros already written, and each macro has it's various shortcomings that I would like to see improved upon.

I'm not asking for people to write this stuff for me, I'm asking if anyone has things that do similar stuff, or if in some cases whether things are even possible.

I'm not posting code yet in the threads I have started because I'm asking for stuff I just don't know how to do yet. Or in some cases I'm just asking if I have my thinking set properly.

And BTW may I ask why you would waste my time and yours by posting accusations, rather than pitching in and helping?
In the time I just wasted, reading and replying to this "I'm an Uber Coder and I say your asking for an AFK macro", tripe I could have written another macro, or helped to debug someone elses.

Please quit wasting my time and yours.

Ladies, ladies.

The suggestions given are worthy of noting. And the discussion of AFK macroing is moot. If it were found to be so, a Dev would've closed this thread long before now.

So shut it.

I think this can be performed by using the record function of advpath, then walking along the trail as posted on the map.

Then just save them as zonename.path files and have them playback as you zone in. If your y,x < 25% of zonesize from place you want to be, then make a B-Line for the place you want to be. Do whatever you need to do, then walk back to where you were, and continue along the path.

I agree I have been thinking of doing something like that using advpath.

Though, for the Wall. I currently set up a timer and if I can't get to target within to adjustable but 2 min. I reset and get a new target.
