BOts and Boxing

Post by Cage9d9 » Tue Dec 30, 2003 2:45 pm

Does MQ2 Provide a way to find out if a character is running more than 1 character or not? As in, Your gruping with someone and they say they aren't boxing but you think they are, can you use telnet possibly? Any instructions or ideas?

Please explain to us how telnet has anything to do with determining someone's IP address?

That's a hell of a plugin.

Come on guys, don't make fun - answer the question:

You could use telnet like this, but you need some help from the suspect.

1. Ask the suspect to tell you what his IP is, and if possible have him go ahead and drop his firewall or allow telnet connections to his PC.

2. If his game PC isn't the firewall (good boy), go ahead and ask him to port forward an agreeable port from outside the firewall to the MQ2telnet-plugin'd box running macroquest - an easy way around the NAT problem.

3. Finally, ask him to give you a nice username and password.

Now all you have to do is log into the guy's macroquest and monitor it for any suspicious activity, such as controlling a bot through the infamous MQ2irc plugin.

It's not that hard to do. And I'm sure someone here has an easier way to do it.

Along with all the other answers.. I'd like to chime in and say.. it doesn't take Macroquest to multi-box toons.

It CAN be done manualy and most times is.

Using MQ to 2-box in a group with strangers is (IMHO) not a smart thing to do. It's really very easy to tell if someone is botting another toon via MQ if you know what to look for (and even if you don't) and it has nothing to do with "telnet" or any other technical thing... just common sence.

In those cases I usally just 2-box the old fashoned way. 2 mice, 2 keyboards. Eather way.. what's the big deal? If they are keeping you alive and contributing to the group x2 who cares?

Since 2000 I have two boxed (or two accounts on one box) without MQ....it is possible and easy. Up until last week, when I got MQ it was the only way i could. As for getting the guy's ip address ? what good would that do you in finding out if he is playing two toons. And what the heck does it matter if he is playing two toons. Unless you feel cheated out of loot because he, like i have, roll on items with both toons, but this is fine, since both toons are contributing to the group, so why not. Also the fact that you are posting here and talking about using MQ in game tells me you shouldn't give a flying F%#$ if he is cheating, dual boxing, or macroing. Just my 2cp.
I put the FUNK in MoNK

I routinely play with a friend who three-boxes (but not using MQ). I always offer her the choice to roll for all 3 characters. She's doing half the work in the group, she should have commensurate (sp?) rewards. That she chooses to only roll once is a tribute to her graciousness as a person.

I do, however, think that someone should tell you if they are two boxing, since it can save a lot of confusion and bad feelings later on. The group should then decide whether one or two rolls will be allowed.

All personal preference of course.
