Paypal for example at all does not hide, that collects the information on users (35 000 000 accounts

) Sony probably owns a part of this company (PayPal) through "E-buy"...

SOE cannot, by law, monitor your computer's internal operations. With, or without an EULA specifically stating it. There are certain undeniable rights on paper, and in cyberspace, that cannot be altered, even if someone agrees to it without knowledge.

In otherwords, spying on your every move is illegal, even if you click to say yes.

Besides that, there's nothing in the EULA yet, that concerns monitoring the actions that your computer takes and/or traffic incoming, or outgoing, from said piece of machinery.

I do know in game GMs can read tells, group talk, and guild chat.
I know someone who got banned for something said in guildchat
in the presence of a GM. And I know someone who was replied
to by a GM after sending a tell to someone else, in the presence of a
GM.

So don't talk in game about selling accounts, etc.

One thing my brother and I have noticed in the last say
3 or 4 months while playing EQ is pop-up adds popping up
behind the game screen. That never used to happen to us. It happened
when our browser was open, but not EQ.

I am wondering if in the 'new' EQ window they allow you to use
mode, if the game is not functioning similar to IE or a browser window
to your PC. This would explain it collecting that data and the pop-ups,
but not if the information is being sent to them though.

The flagging of visited sites and sending the flag in their data
to them is interesting, they could then not monitor everything you
looked at but it would let them know if you are visiting certain sites
they don't like. To me if they are doing anything, that would make the
most sense. They don't want massive amounts of useless to them data
being sent to them, they are just concerned with a few certain sites
anyway.

Get a Spyware remover. I keep my computer ad/spyware free like a darn ninja, and I've never had any trouble with pop-ups in the background of EQ. It must be something you downloaded a while back that had a little program that throws pop-ups at you when it detects an internet connection. Lots of'em out there. Easy to get rid of though. I, myself, mostly use Spybot Seek & Destroy and recommend it.

Also if using XP (and NT?) disable the Messenger service. That's not MSN Messenger, it's something that allows sending popup messages from server to client on a domain. A lot of companies were exploiting that to send home users popups.

Microsoft itself has recommended disabling this service unless you are on a network that specifically needs it (which is very few home users.)

aye messenger sucks =)
steps to disable it for the unknowing

1- right click "my computer" from the desktop
2- select "manage"
3- open "services and applications"
4- open "services"
5- scroll down the list of services (should be alpha order) find "messenger"
6- double click "messenger"
7- toward the bottom theres a scroll that says automatic
8- scroll to disable
9- click "stop"
10- click apply

done, no more ad popups

now can someone teach me how to block popups from IE without using 3rd party software to dissallow instancing IE from a webpage (as in popup hell from porn sites etc)

any help greatly appreciated

I'll second that. I'm switching all my friends to firebird. It is the best browser available. Don't believe me? This is why!

Was excited to go check out this browser but reading that link I dont see anything that'd make me switch, and actually saw a couple things I didnt think were so hot.

As far as tabbed layouts, personally dont like em, I kept the SDI view in Visual Studio for as long as they left it in. I use the rt-click/open-in-new-window option in IE a lot, so I guess I'm getting similar functionality, just prefer many windows vs a tabbed MDI-ish environment.

The toolbar and location stuff reminded of AoL addons...easier to look up words in dictionary, lol? I've got a bookmark tucked somewhere for those bi-annual instances when I just have to look something up in the online dictionary, or I just go to m-w.com from memory. Honestly I'm looking for a lean browser, not AoL keyword-ish feature (yes I get it, its doing Google Feeling Lucky) or hotkeys that I'll never use.

Anyway, I've never used it so just wondering from those that have why its so much better than IE? If its just the stuff listed on that page I guess its just personal preference for me, but I'm hoping they're leaving something out and I'm just not seeing the whole picture.

You can still open in a new window if you want to. Open in tab is just another option in the list.

Only pain in the ass about Firebird are the plug-ins, and another thing I hate is that in IE when you hit ctrl-n it opens a copy of the same window you already have open, with Firebird ctrl-n opens a new window at your homepage.
