Working EQW?

Post by captainj2001 » Tue Nov 18, 2003 4:17 pm

I run two accounts on the same computer and I've been trying to bot one of them but to no avail, the newest version of EQW at http://www.eqwindows.com/ does not work well for doing this I'm not sure if there's a newer version somewhere out there or if there is something else I could do. I appreciate any help I recieve.

As always,

Justin

2Boxing EQ with EQW works best if each copy of EQ is in it's own directory, for example:

EverQuest (Primary install)
EverQuest 2Box (Secondary Install)

Then you run EQW, telling it to load EQ from the Primary install, then after you are all up and running, run EQW again and tell it to load from the Secondary install.

It also helps to disable sound and set EQ to the lowest possible video settings for the Second install to decrease as much lag as possible.

Your computer also has a huge impact on how well it works.

If you have less than 512mb of RAM, a 1Ghz CPU, or a crappy soundcard (or one built-in), I wouldn't even bother, chances are the performance is really gonna suck.
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, but most of them stink.

You need more than 512mb even with all models and textures turned off. Have 768mb at least, and it wont need to swap. I have 1GB and run 2 from the same directory with no problems.

I got 3 running once without too many problems.

Granted one of them was only used for buffing and rezzing.

I had 2 directories, 3 copies of EQW (1st running from pri directory, with normal snd/graphics, 2nd and 3rd running from second directior with low graphics no sound).

I was running a

1.7ghz p4
1024mb RAM
Raedon 9700 128mp
Win XP
Cable modem

It took forever to load the 2nd and 3rd accounts and they would crash if I tried zonning at the same time, but after I zoned, they all worked with almost no lag.

On a machine with 2.4GHZ processor, 1GB of ram, and a 128MB geforce video card, I run 3 character simulaneously all the time with two of them running as bots with the genbot macro. I rarely have any issues even with zoning.

I can tell you some things that I have noticed:

1) The larger your resolution, the more lag and the more problems you will have. I can run 3 windows in 1024X768 great, but if I try to up that any the problems get exponentially bigger due to video lag.

2) Turn old graphics on for any races you can. For example, I basically only group with friends and we have male ogres, female ogres, barbarians, and female dark elves in our group so I put the new graphics on for those and turn everything else to old.

3) Ever since LAX put in the fps stuff, running 3 windows is even easier. Before the FPS code, I couldnt auto follow because my bot characters would fall behind due to video lag but now I can auto follow them just fine.

Basically when you are trying to get things working, turn all graphics to old models, start in 800X600 mode, and then up things from there once you get it working.

Hope that helps.
