you should actually call it something else, it doesn't use telnet at all ;)

I agree that the server is good for that, but why do i want to switch to another window to a connection to look at info? I honestly dont. It would take relatively little effort to make a customized display chat function.. meh I'll work on it.

Just a simple question... did anyone ever think of doing a MQ Terminal? let me explain

I have 2 PCs.. when i want to run a macro i always use my other PC to log into MQ via telnet using Putty.exe. Only thing is MQ sends so much stuff to telnet that the pages scroll and scroll and scroll without stoping.

I was thinking of a program that could sort Tells, Skill gains, damage done or received, or basically a window system just like EQ where we could tell what goes in wich window.

This is probly a big project but it seems like a good idea for the paranoiacs like me.. hehehe.. :)

If you wanted to use a quick and dirty way that leverages existing technologies, you could write a Perl script that logs into the MQ telnet and also to an IRC server of your choice. The script could then sort/filter the messages into seperate IRC channels. You could also make it so that the script takes input from IRC and sends it back to the MQ client, enabling you to control your toon thru IRC.

This way you could have your MQ running at home behind a firewall, but watch (and direct) it from any place you can connect to IRC. Thats what I have done so I can watch and control my toon from work.

It seems to me that since tells must go via the server that since the current preferred method of controlling bots is via tells that surely all SOE need to do is monitor tells for suspicious commands? Especially if genbot becomes really popular...

Are there any other ways of controlling bots? I can't think of any...

thanks, but that is still a chat channel that could be monitored... any others?

(maybe I am being paranoid... I never used to be this way!)

There is no foolproof way to "in game" send bot communication from one character to the other at this time. I seriously doubt they are going to go to that kind of trouble to activly seek out genbot users. It would be a lot of money spent on something that would acheive a loss in revinue.
When they come to me, they're in trouble, or they want some. I bust people out of prison, hunt down vampires, fight alien gods -- All the fun jobs people are too squeamish or too polite to do themselves.

Call me a mercenary. Call me an assassin. Call me a villain. I am all that and more.

While it may be very rare for SOE to monitor your tells or channels to figure out your botting, it does happen, and if it happens to you and you lose 4 lvl 60+ chars, that might not be a very positive experience.

It should be possible to add a small irc client into mq (Im sure theres open source) then have the irc chat pass through the same filter mechanism as tells and channels and be able to use text from the irc channel to trigger actions.

like

/irc healme
[irc.foreverhacking.net #mybotchan ] <Kaz> healme
[irc.foreverhacking.net #mybotchan ] <Somecleric> healing Kaz

just an idea, maybe someday I'll code it :)

It almost sounds like invasion of privacy listening in on private chat... like an illegal phone tap or something.

I am no lawyer but....

PS. I also just realised when EQ crashes now and they ask if it is OK to send them info it is probably not a good idea to click YES.

It's not illegal for them to monitor anything that gets sent to their servers, it is illegal for them to monitor anything not involving their game on your system. They don't do that.

The only way for SOE to get any information about MQ is to send it to them, they can't request a dump (i.e. /report) of your system without your consent. They can however monitor all tells, group, say, etc etc.

Edit: Yes, I am behind on the conversation, damn that work taking up too much of my MQ time!

my friend use a telnet client designed for on-line mudds - it allows multiple windows, auto filter incoming chat to different windows based on keywords, adds autoable alerts on keywords and macro buttons. He uses it to control his macro'd characters at home from work - except for not having the display screen he gets alomst all of his client functions at work

Next time I talk to him I'll get the name of the client - it's something like rptelnet

I hear it's also a good idea to only run MQ off floppies... and when you're not using them store them in a pillowcase filled with magnets... see Sony's been using some satellite tech. that allows them to (through the use of focused solar flares) scan floppies from a distance... and everyone know solar flares hate magnets.
Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn for EQ.
