Here is the problem...i started playing yesterday morning...zoned into shadeweavers thick...started the map...took a few secs to come up, but the names of the npc's were visible...turned map off...then turned back on a few minutes later and no NPC names just little dots...i updated the newest mq2 patch then restarted everything and same thing with map just dots...i did notice later that i can right click on a dot and target that npc

Did you try /mapfilter all off then /mapfilter all on ???

I think you might try beeing a little more discriptive. I read this book with words it was awsome you know wich one im talking about?

Things you might wanna tell us.

Have you changed anything since it last worked?
It worked when you 1st logged in?
When did it stop working?
How long were you playing?
What were you doing?

At this point I would tell you to completly remove Mq2 download a fresh copy recompile it and see if that works (as a generic fix).

Honestly, making a topic "I'm gonna get flamed" is the worst thing to do.

State your problem and question.

I disagree. The worst thing to do is ask about forbidden hacking topics, and say you just need them so you can get back at this guy who cheats at <0vn+3r $tr1k3.
