Are they gonna sting me for this?

Post by lozarythmic » Tue Sep 09, 2003 12:31 pm

Hi there,

I only just discovered MacroQuest a few days ago, and i want to implement it on my system, however i have a quick question to ask....

Basically, as MacroQuest blatantly goes against the EULA, what are the chances of SoE picking up on the fact that i'm using it and de-activate my account?

When i used to play DiabloII i had a magicfind bot which used to go to certain vendors and check their equipment for kit that i wanted, this bot used to take a slightly different route each time to avoid discovery, so i was also wondering if anyone might know if SOE look for similar patterns in their logs etc...?

Have any of you heard of anybody being kicked off for using it? And if so what were the circumstances sorrounding?

I really like EverQuest and, although i haven't been playing as long as i guess most of you have, i would still be COMPLETELY gutted if my account was frozen...

Thanks in advance,

Loz

If this is a fact, macroquest isn't worth gutting yourself over... if you're this serious about everquest, i see mq in this light: yes, if you use it, you will be found out in due time. the features it offer are great, but it's not worth stressing over so much as to getting sick over it.

I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone who asks this question in these forums.

If you use your head and don't do stupid things, chances are that you will never get caught using it.

IF you are not ready to accept the chance of losing your account, then don't use it.

Most of us at this point have been playing for so long that if we lost our main accounts we would welcome the chance to spend less time in EQ.

All my trade skills are just below 200, and I did it all in PoK (almost all). I can't get banned even when doing stupid stuff like this.

It's simple really, don't use MQ if you don't want to get your account banned.

If you don't care or it's a junk account you got just to do this stuff on, then go for it.

Only 2 real ways to get banned using MQ I think (this is probably wrong) is 1) Doing something publically that OBVIOUSLY shows you're doing it.. and 2) Offsets being REALLY fucked up and SoE actually saying "WTF" then flagging accounts via bad offsets (but that's basically the same thing, just offsets being out of your control.. it's sort of hard to ban people like this though, you can some times screw up the banning process and maybe ban incorrect people who maybe just didn't download the latest patch, therefore making this more a BAD thing than GOOD)

Which, I've never used MQ with a bad obvious offset, I usually wait a week before I even run it when a patch happens, just so peeps can get stuff fixed. And honestly I think that SoE may know I'm using MQ, but so long as I'm not doing anything malicious or unfair (totally unfair, that is) , they won't tag me up and ban me *shrugs* they have better things to do then ban players not doing any serious malicious changes. (meaning, altering the game experience to the extreme) I'm just money so long as I play, if I keep my community happy with me, and don't alter the game substatially, they have no real reason to ban my account for being money.

If I got banned one day, I'd probably be more surprised than upset. Just the fact that I have, over my entire EQ life, been running the same stuff and not being even CITED about it, to one day just be straight up banned, I must have done something listed on the top! But I would just go on with life, or buy a new account and start over <shrugs> it's just a game.

Don't quote me on this stuff. This is just what I personally think, as a person, who has ran MQ or SEQ off and on for nearly 3 or 4 years, with not 1 notch or negative comment on my account.

I've never personally interacted with anyone who has been banned for using MQ, ever. But, you see them every once and a while on the boards "Don't use MQ I got banned for it!" ect.. I think people do get banned for it, if you're stupid. If you use it as a simple non-AFK tool to help with tedious events, I don't think SoE will ban you unless you're pissing off someone.

Hope this helps answer your question!
