I am trying to convert one an old macro into MQ2 and am having a little trouble with this one part:

$searchspawn(npc,loc:-30:30,radius:100)

I figure it will use something like this:

 ${Spawn[npc loc -30,30 radius 100]}

but it seems to pay no attention to the loc command. It just returns the closest npc with in the radius to me. Does anyone know how to make this find the closest npc to a given loc?

Not too sure on searching from a specific location.

but at the moment the search string is not working right when you use radius.
When you use it, MQ2 find the spawns tha are near loc -30:0 instead of loc -30,30.
No idea how to resolve it.

So if I didn't include radius in my search string, it would find the closest mob to the loc I give it?

Yes without radius it works right, giving back the nearest spawn to the loc you give. BUT, remember that without radius, it will give back ANY nearest spawn, even if it is on the other side of the zone. You can rsolve it using a control on the distance, like:
