Is /face safe?

Post by OnyxSkyDV » Mon Jul 07, 2003 11:12 am

I remember hearing about /face being less that safe in some instances. If this correct, or just conjecture?

Thanks!

i would suppose that using it a lot in front of people would go beyond it being perceived as lag. people might just get suspicious and petition, but if you dont use it a lot around people, noone should care.

as far as i understand it is just like moving the mouse really fast with mouselook on, i would be mistaken, but i think thats it
ya know, i cant think of anything profound to say here, so....

just for combines

Na, I just use it for combines, and tend to try and find empty zones to do them in, so it should not be observed.

Thanks!

Just don't use /face fast if people can see you and you should be ok.

You're probably confusing it with how /target on out of range mobs is unsafe. Personally, I'm changing my code to get the id then /face loc $spawn(id,y),$spawn(id,x)

How is targeting out of range spawns not safe? Other than the obvious reasons. I use this combined with face all the time when hunting for green mob drops. I don't however use it in macros. PS. I don't think I use face fast as I just turn kinda quick twards the mob, not just pop to it's direciton.

Also, on a "doing trade skills in macro" level... I just do it in PoK. I figure there are so many freaking people in there nobody wil even look at me. Skilled 3 skills in 2 days to just under 200 there. I'm also usually trying to sel stuff at the same time so I have a quick exit to reply back. If it takes me a second I just say I wanted to get the last of a stack done while I was on a roll.

I'm not sure how they can detect you targeting mobs out of range really. I know it cannot be a factor of pure range. As a shaman I have a spell called Assiduous Vision that lets me see through the eyes of another NPC or PC. While that NPC wanders I can retarget mobs it passes and recast the spell to see through their eyes, essentially leap frogging my way through the zone. I could if given enough time and the right circumstances end up targeting a mob on the opposite side of the zone this way since the spell has a range of 10,000 feet. All this even without MQ and perfectly legit. So if it was pure range, this perfectly legit way would end up getting you banned, so I don't believe it is that. If someone has some info I do not know, please enlighten me since this is something I have been wondering about.

don't use /face while FD in front of people, or while sitting... you're not supposed to be able to move

really, what's your problem? I'm being helpful to the best of my abilities... while it may be obvious, I know of at least 5 dimwits that have done this. The first poster said "under certain circumstances" /face was unsafe. No one mentioned those two conditions before I did. So  somewhere else.
