Before anyone asks about a Macintosh version

All forums need a place for all the posts for people in the community to rant about things not relating to what the forum is about. This is that forum.

Fine. That wasn't my point.

This isn't the place for debates / arguements / statements of "Truth" / praises to the almighty PC / Mac / Allah / Sun God / Whatever. This is the General Discussion on MacroQuest forum, last I checked. Given that Macs are not a part of MacroQuest (please refrain from stating the obvious pun :P), they have no place in this forum.

All my opinion, of course. ;)

That's fine too, but I was answering a question from dkaa. Don't point fingers at me for answering someone elses question. I gave an honest answer, not tripe.

DKAA asked a question in this thread? I don't see it. None of his posts use the word 'debate' either... *shrugs*

I really don't care. My post was not for your perusal only -- otherwise it'd have been a PM. Calm down, and don't take everything so seriously or personally.

And, for the record, I change the TV channel when those Mac commercials come on. Though I have to admit, you gotta love the idiots who's computers "lock up every day and crash three times a week." These are the kinds of people who answer 'Yes' to anything from the "Gator Corporation." :P
Tripe (n): Lining of the stomach of a ruminant (especially a bovine) used as food
Interesting. :)

My reply was deleted as well as the question.

Ah, that'd explain it. :)

Then my rant had nothing to do with you. :)

And I'm gonna have to use Tripe more often. :P

Salutaitons,
moving to one of the forums that is now more relevant for this thread, if it heads back to MQ relevant I'll move it back.
IMHO, Macintosh, Windows, Linux, Unix, Dos, etc. It all has it's uses, that's why it was designed. If it's not useful, it wouldn't be around after this long. People have their own opinions about what's best. I personally like the Mac OS X UI much better then windows XP, so I've got my computer set up to reflect that. If there is something you do not like about either system, there are ways to adjust. My experience is mostly in the Windows realm, and all my computers have things such as "litestep" and "Object Dock" installed so that the UI is reflective of OS X. I even purchased Window Blinds so that I could have the windows skinned like OS X, with the little orbs on the left, and the button on the right to make it so only the title bar shows. Very fun. Other then that, the only thing I like about Macs is their cuteness, but I'm not gonna fix that any time soon, my blue chassis is sweet, and sweet is better then cool since sweet obviously has shoogar. anyway... um.. yeah... moving the topic.

yea, what lizard said.
debating different OS's is like debating usefulness of tools.

"No a wrench is better than a phillips screwdriver! No! Flathead conquers All!"

Well sure, if you got a screw with a + on the back the wrench will suck, the flathead will sorta work, but the phillips is ideal. If you got a hex nut you would use the wrench, the others would suck. Flathead works with - on the back..

It's silly to compare, really.

It's all about what you know, and what you can do -- Combile all OS's on different boxes and you can do tons. Rip the movies\edit graphics on the mac, run the server on the nix, do the common junk on windows, you're getting best of all worlds!

CHEESE!!!

EDIT: argh! thought this would make page 3.... should have waited longer...if it had everything in the universe would have fallen into place to lead up to this moment...and today would have been the first day of the rest of my life...wait a sec...

I could start a debate on why you wanted to be on page 3, but meh. I'm too bored for that.

I was tired and messing around lol.

Page one was mostly people debating Mac's vs PC's.

Page two was mostly people debating where people should debate Mac's vs. PC's (people debating people debating).

Then I wanted to be the first on page three to debate people debating where people should debate Mac's vs. PC's. (a person debating about people debating people debating).

You can see I was pretty bored I had something important to do for a very boring class... in fact right now im procrastinating that again.

My question is how would you get the MQ2Auth.exe to work? I know somone who has winex and couldnt get MQ2Auth.exe to work so he could install MQ.

This thread was started long before MQ2Auth.exe was introduced.

The problem is not just with MQ2Auth (now) but rather the work it would require to decompile and decode the Mac version of EQ. While the data packets being sent to the client may be the same (an EQEmu person would probably know that answer), the client and all the offsets that MQ uses would be different. Possibly radically different.

While the scripting language for MQ and many of the other components could possibly migrate, all the game interfaces (there is no DirectX in OS X) would be completely different and require a total rewrite.
