MQ2 strange problem in Windows 7 64 bit

Post by jyaku20 » Thu Mar 25, 2010 5:44 pm

I've never had a problem running with xp but when I upgraded my system to windows 7 64-bit I have a strange problem and I didn't see it anywhere on the forums.

I followed the instructions and put mq2auth.exe on my desktop and ran it in winxpsp2 compatibility mode, then moved the mq2autho0.h file to the main folder. I opened mq2.exe in winxpsp2 compatibility mode too and it starts up in the task bar. When I get to charecter select it still functions and I see the window of the updates.

However when I login to a charecter, it doesn't work in the game.

Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've spent the last week stumped on this issue and had to give up and ask for help

P.S. Since my old Visual Studio didn't work in windows 7 64-bit, I used virtual xp and installed it there, and managed to compile it that way with no errors and it seems to work. I hope that's not the problem

What is "it" exactly?

My own setup is Windows 7 (64 bit) Home with the free MS Virtual C++ Express Edition. Just run everything as Administrator and it's not even necessary to run in XP emulation mode.

mq2 commands don't work and I don't have the window with mq commands with a charecter logged in.

For example I can't even use /mapfilter

Interesting that you mention that. I think I'm missing some files with the plugins, either eqgame.ini or charname.ini but I can't remember where/ what their location was..

Sigh that's what I get for reformatting over xp. since had those things working flawlessly earlier.

All I really needed was map filter and the mq window with /who all npc to work.

Just thought I'd let you know -- I just came back to EQ after a several year break and went to install MQ2. I compiled just fine, but it won't hook into EQ no matter what I try. I've tried running it before launching, after launching, etc -- no luck. Finally I ran MQ2 as administrator and it worked fine lol ....

Maybe this'll help.
Thinking is everything----

At Char login window can see MQ2 window, but when enter the zone, MQ2 outof function.

BTW: EQ/MQ2 Work fine at Windows XP / 32 bit.
