Is Macroquest still available?

Post by Resiliant » Sat May 17, 2003 1:15 pm

Ok, I decided after hearing a lot about it to give MQ a try this morning.

I've just spent an entire hour trying to find the latest MacroQuest. I won't detail the 50 or so different places I've looked including CVS (No packages defined), Your own download page, "Macroquest Latest Nightly" --> "THE PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND", 'Check out the files section on SourceForge' --> NO FILE PACKAGES, downloaded WinCVS --> No Packages Availalbe.

SO.... MQ is dead I guess. At least it seems impossible for an experienced user that has scanned as many Forum threads as seemed applicable in the last couple months to even FIND the friggin thing.

just my opinion, but posting like that dosen't get you very far with this community. It has been my experence, that if you want help, ask for it. Don't gripe about it not being there, and dont be condecending with

compuboy,

Sorry if i sound condesending. After wasting now... close to two hours of my time trying to do something which should be eminently obvious and the single simplest thing you can do on a publicly available sofware product i.e.... get it... I'm just a *tad* frustrated.

And... thanks for taking the time to contribute absolutely nothing, but rather than helping to solve the problem take your time to be condecending and superior and to make comments about my frustration rather than helping. Go away. Your post is useless.

its not really clear for a new user that it is source only and that you have to download from cvs and compile it yourself. I would like a sticky on it.

Even for me (who knows how to compile and stuff...) it took quite alot of searching and poking around...

Anyway Resiliant, I welcome you to our little world hopefully you will be able to contribute to the project as well, here is a link to step by step instructions on howto obtain and get your own working copy of MacroQuest -->

I apologize if i responded a lil fast to your post w/o gathering all the facts. You just seemed to come off a little bit prematurely upset. Seemed that you were saying "oh i cant find what i am lookin for so you guys are doing a bad job." But if i misunderstood, which i think i may have, i am sorry.

that out of the way....

Welcome to the MQ communiy and I hope you find it offers as much assistanse to you as it does to me.

Complaining about wasting your time kind of seems like your issue. Not the Macroquest community's.

Can't we just answer these with a simple "Yes, you are correct?" It would save all the flaming. :)

-Lane

PS, Ya, we should probably sticky the "cvs/compile post".

Actually Lane, we don't want everyone and their brother able to use this program. We want people to have to work a bit to use it. As it stands right now, a person would need to:
1) Have the proper software.
2) Know or teach yourself how to build applications from source (no, not me, the source in the cvs!).
(and here is the one that really culls the masses:)
3) Know how to use the damn search feature here on the boards.

IMO, if someone cannot meet these simple requirements and contributes nothing to the project, then they don't need to reap the benefits of the project.

Heh, actually here's what Lane meant. If you replied "Yes you are correct" to Resiliant's first question, that would have meant "yes, MQ is no longer available, piss off." Which would have saved the flaming. I think that's a much better solution than trying to explain the whole thing to every Newbie_01 that enters the boards and posts a new topic.
