am I the only one that finds the map almost useless with freqUI and
mq2map by default? The transparency/etc? Most of the lines/objects
displayed on the map are dark by default also.

Is everyone having to customize the crap out of maps to get them to
display right with this UI?

EDIT:

I just got rid of the freqUI map window and used the default.. fixed
my concerns.

You remove the transparency by right clicking and removing the background texture, and set the background tint color to what ever you like, i use green

Thought i'd post my experience, first off it's a fantastic UI, thanks for the upkeep of it.
I also found the map really annoying and from the post above and the other reference set about changing the background. I couldn't for the life of me RIGHT click to change it, i clicked all the flip over in every nook and crany of the map window to no avail. I could RIGHT click other windows to change them ok. I gave up, then just from looking through something else i found the command

/mapfilter menu

sure enough i tried this and low and behold i could then RIGHT click the top of it and change it.

Just thought i'd post to save others the struggle in case they didn't know

Blit.
