But that takes the fun out of it.

Yunto, didn't you get the script for assisting people in the help forums. Here it is:

Code: Select all

Sub Main
 /echo Diagnosing A_Noob0001's Error...
 /echo Problem Found!
 /echo Error code: ${Math.Rand[99]}
/return

Tells me the normal "this program is not authorized to work on this computer" I know that is not correct. But basically the message it tells you when you have not run the MQ2Auth.exe. Not sure what is going on.

Running as admin

Post by Droodie » Sun Jan 13, 2008 7:53 am

Just got a new computer and it runs Vista /yeah I know you have seen this kind of post before, please read on :)

My friend that always do the compiles for me, made a new compile for my new machine. I have him the two auth lines to add to his compile so it would run on my new hardware.

When I log in on the computer I log in as administrator (well, I log in as ME, but my account is an administrator account, and there are no other accounts on the system).

I right click "Run as administrator" on MacroQuest. I have tried with "Run as administrator" on EverQuest as well as just running it "normally".

Still, I experience all the problems everyone else is (before they get their problems fixed). MQ starts up, no problems, no pop-up errors, nothing. I see the MQ text on the blue "load bar" etc etc. Everything seems to be in order, except that it simply does not work.

I have read all (I think) posts on this issue, and it seems "Run as administrator" fixes the problem for everyone, but me.

One little bit that might help... When I fiddle with "compability" and set it to Windows XP, I CAN not run as admin. Then I get the standard "this application is not authorized to run on this machine"-message. (BUT MQ2 starts anyway).

Any ideas?

Did you run MQ2Auth.exe as admin? And as compatible with XP sp2?

I tried once running MQ2Auth.exe as administrator to see if I got another kind of result in the two lines of code, but they were identical.
I did not run MQ2Auth.exe as "XP compatible" though - I will try that right away.

Edit: Setting the compability of MQ2Auth.exe itself did indeed give me two different lines of code. This probably was the issue with not being able to run MQ under XP compability. Thanks a million times. I am sure this will fix the problem.

MQ2 works fine on Vista. I just installed EQ for the hell of it on a few machines and build the stock MQ2 a couple of weeks ago.

I tested the most recent stock MQ2 to see if I could run into any problems building it on VS 2003, 2005 and 2008 and then ran the compiled versions of MQ2 on XP Pro, Vista Ultimate 32 bit and Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

If you're having a problem, it is most likely something you're doing wrong.
