For anyone that wants an official word on Plazmic, you'll be lucky to find one anywhere. According to the more knowledgeable, less offical people that I have spoke to, the chances that he will come back are extremely rare to lacking existing..
The general consensus at this point is that Plaz only made MQ for the money. He really wasn't the nice noob-helping happy project leader that he played on the boards, and had shown this through a fiew ripoff's of other people on his way through the project.
I really think you guys should reconsider your patriotic type approach to hope for macroquest.. The odds arent favorable and you are seemingly quite misled.

Well, whatever his motives were, I'd like to thank Plaz and all the other hard working developers who made MacroQuest the class product we all enjoy

not to mention he had it months before it was realized by the masses ...........
hell i'd take 500 dollars for someone elses macro (and i'm sure anyone else would too) =P and if he was makin it JSUT for the money why would he make it open source? I dunno, i just think that if i were gonna do somethin like this just for the money, i wouldn't make the source available to everyone =P. Just my two cents.
